CONTEXT
In March of 2020, our collective world ground to a halt. Yet, even as we struggled to make sense of everything that was happening – both emotionally and practically – INTERWEAVE sprang into action, starting the very first moment the lockdown was announced in Greece.

Faithful to our mission, we supported several Covid-19 related initiatives taken by the Government – such as designing and implementing the Greek Ministry of Education Covid-19 campaign, developing solidarity platforms on behalf of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, and several platforms for the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior.

Ultimately, we created our own campaign – the #COVID19WarMarks campaign: a donation campaign benefiting the International Medical Corps, also supported by the United Nations.

DIGITAL SOLIDARITY
PLATFORM

Greece locked down, and the government immediately sought ways to comfort citizens during that very unprecedented and difficult situation.

We all knew we were in this for the long haul, and the surge of goodwill was immediate, but it was not organised. The government was inundated with offers of assistance; but we needed a way to unify and organise these disparate responses to ensure that resources were properly allocated  – and that people knew where to look and what there was to find.
Before a week had elapsed, INTERWEAVE had launched a platform which allowed for public and private institutions to offer digital tools and services for free or at a discount, facilitating citizens and businesses with remote work, education, entertainment, and more.

More than 300 institutions responded to this call for digital solidarity (Cisco, Amazon, Microsoft, Cosmote, Nova, Singular Logic, Google, among others).
ANIMAL SOLIDARITY
PLATFORM

After lending our support to our most vulnerable fellow humans, we knew there was another population sharing our nation that needed assistance: animals (pets, livestock and stray animals).

The platform supported this population and their owners by calling private and public institutions and veterinarians to gather food, veterinary services, medicines, etc., in order not to leave our 4-legged friends unprotected.

CITY SOLIDARITY
PLATFORM

From the first initial steps of the government’s COVID response, we knew it was crucial that noone be left behind; especially the most vulnerable amongst us. The next platform we created was therefore aimed towards the relief and assistance of senior citizens, one of the population’s hardest hit by the lockdown, both in psychological terms as well as in terms of digital illiteracy.

The platform facilitated municipalities, organisations and the private sector to support our vulnerable fellow citizens by aggregating supplies in food, medicine, housing and hygiene equipment and social services for them.

ETHELONTES

We weren’t the only citizens eager to help; disparate offers poured in, but it was necessary to first organise who could do what and where they could deliver before determining where it should go.

The goal of the Ethelontes (Volunteers) platform was to effectively coordinate the pool of volunteers who offered their aid in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. It facilitated the collection of applications from a wide range of volunteers & specialisations needed by the health system. Applications gathered by the platform were then processed by regional authorities to where they were most needed.

Response was overwhelming, and so was seeing people from all over Greece come together under one shared purpose.
PPE-COVID

Another platform we created was not for public use; instead, it facilitated the relevant national authorities in efficiently organising the flood of financial offers for medical supplies and equipment. They arrived from around the world, via email and more, scattered across different places and points of contact.

The platform acted as a back office system, receiving the offers while also sourcing other relevant data such as company ISOs and equipment models; it was a great success in providing support to the government.
3D MAKERS

Then there was the community of makers, professionals and hobbyists with equipment and materials such as 3D printers and surplus objects, which they offered to the cause. For them, we created a platform that acted as a bridge between the community and the health system’s expanding needs for specific equipment due to the pandemic.

It included equipment specs for the makers & “how to” tutorials, ensuring the donated objects (from PPE to contact-free door handles) met the rigorous safety standards needed. Participants were able to declare how much they could produce and where they could deliver, channelling these contributions to relieve the authorities and create real impact as soon as possible.
GREECE
FROM HOME

Finally, while all of this was going on and Greece was weathering the storm comparatively well, we wanted to share solidarity and support with the world – while preventing our national relationship with potential travellers from fraying. Thus, we created a platform that allowed Greek influencers to share content of their work to a global wide audience in order to promote tourism during the lockdown.

It allowed Greece to retain contact with global travellers by showing a new side of the Greek experience during this unprecedented era, spotlighting the fact that we were still there, still going through all of this together, and still on each others’ minds.
