After studying Graphic Design at Portsmouth Art School, Simon started his career in Australia – first as an Art Director, then quickly rising to senior roles such as Creative Director.
In Sydney, he became a well-known industry leader during the decade-long rise of the internet in marketing. Working on global eCommerce projects and corporate web platforms, Simon designed many of Australia’s first commercial websites.
Joining WPP in 2000, in an Asia Pacific role for Brand Dialogue, Simon led creative engagements in Japan, China, Taiwan and Singapore – where he honed his international business skills and multi-country team management capabilities.
After being headhunted for a London position, Simon moved back to the UK to set up Wunderman Interactive as Executive Creative Director and Managing Partner. He successfully grew the business to 80+ people, winning global client accounts for Ford, Motorola, Microsoft and Land Rover. He also judged the Cyber Lions at the Cannes Festival of Creativity. In 2008 Simon took the opportunity to head up US agency VML’s European business, with the responsibility to lead and grow the company across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Big client wins for SAP, Bacardi and Adidas required VML to expand capabilities and services at scale. Simon led the capabilities expansion in Germany, Poland, Turkey and South Africa, adding over 500 team members to the regional network. One of the areas of business Simon enjoys is developing new partnerships and growth opportunities for brands. In 2019 global consulting firm Digital M&A offered Simon a leadership position to build their European portfolio. The role was predominantly developing business and brand transformation strategies for companies in the marketing sector.
In 2020 Frederico Roberto, Interweaves’s ECD and Simon were reunited at Interweave, both former senior leaders at VML in Europe.
Simon’s addition to the senior team is part of a new strategic direction for Interweave; partnering with clients to drive change, finding growth opportunities for brands, and developing customer experiences that engage audiences across all channels and touchpoints – with an emphasis on developing new client business in European and MENA regions.
With his passion for creative business, Simon leads Interweave’s Brand Experience Practice for the agency across all our geographies and has a management role in running Interweave’s UK operations.
As an antidote to the world of technology and data, Simon loves to spend time in the mountains, or at the beach, indulging his love of exploring wild terrain, or surfing the best breaks in the world.
